COD: A "Good-News" Story...

The College of DuPage: Truly a "Good-News" Story!

So often, too often...the news we read and hear about is depressing and disturbing, but certainly not so with the College of DuPage, an absolute jewel of an institution! It's history speaks to its commitment to live up to its Mission Statement:

To be a center for excellence in teaching, learning and cultural experience

by providing

accessible, affordable, and comprehensive education.

On September 25th, 1967, the College of DuPage opened under President Rodney K. Berg; classses were held in office trailers and at forty leased suburban sites.  Driving from class to class, the 2,621 students and 87 full time faculty and staff of this "campus-less" community college became affectionately known as road runners, or the "Chaparrals."

In 1968, a 273-acre Glen Ellyn campus site was acquired and construction was started.  Within nine years enrollment stood at 19,642.  Today, C.O.D. is the Midwest's largest single campus community college, serving approximately 30,000 students. It is the second-largest institution of higher education in Illinois.  More than one million residents from all or part of 51 communities comprise today's District 502.

In 2008, College of DuPage received the maximum seven-years reaccreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.  Since its founding, C.O.D. courses have enriched the lives of nearly one million students!

Currently, about one in four young people between the ages of 18-20 years old who live within the boundaries of District 502 is attending the College of DuPage.  And we all know why: excellent educational opportunity at an affordable price!

The highest degree offered by the College of DuPage is an Associate Degree; the most popular majors are liberal arts, various health professions, business/marketing, and interdisciplinary studies.  The tuition, fees, and books for a full time student are about $6000, a huge cost savings for most students and their families who compare C.O.D. to public or private four year institutions.

The College of DuPage is truly the Value of a Lifetime!
